A Foley Police investigation into an alleged abduction has led to multiple charges against a Florida man, with additional charges expected across state lines. Authorities say the case began shortly after noon on April 24, 2026, when officers responded to a complaint about a reported kidnapping that began in Gulf Breeze, Florida, and extended into Foley, Alabama. The situation was resolved without physical harm to the victim, but investigators found sufficient evidence to proceed with serious felony charges.
According to the Foley Police Department, officers made contact with 42-year-old Grant David Barrett and a 71-year-old male victim shortly after receiving the complaint. The victim was reported to be unharmed at the time of contact. Investigators allege Barrett took the victim against his will and threatened force during travel between Gulf Breeze and Foley.
Following the investigation, Barrett was arrested and charged with second-degree kidnapping, second-degree possession of marijuana, and third-degree criminal mischief. Foley detectives also coordinated with the Santa Rosa County Major Crimes Unit in Florida, where additional charges are pending.
Barrett is currently being held without bond at the Baldwin County Correctional Facility.
