Deysy Xiomara Perez-Mendez (Baldwin County Corrections)
The Foley Police Department investigated a reported case of child abuse, leading to the arrest of a woman for torture/willful abuse of a child.
Police first received a request from the Florida Department of Child and Family Services for a welfare check on a child who reported her mother had abused her. Officers made contact with the child at her home in Foley and determined the girl was in good health and unharmed. However, the Baldwin County Department of Human Resources was called in and removed two children from the home.
An extensive investigation involving multiple suspects in multiple states yielded enough probable cause and evidence to charge the mother, police revealed. The Poarch Creek Police arrested Deysy Xiomara Perez-Mendez, 43.
Perez-Mendez was booked into the Baldwin County Jail on a $20,000 bond. She is considered innocent until proven guilty.
Investigators are not releasing any other details at this time due to the nature of the investigation across several jurisdictions.
