Foley’s city council will study whether a new turn lane is needed to increase safety at a subdivision entrance off of South Juniper Street. Officials will seek approval for the project along the roadway.
The council will meet in a joint regular/work session on Feb. 2 at 4 p.m. in council chambers at City Hall.
The public project will be for the Iberville Square subdivision’s left-turn lane from South Juniper Street to Beignet Drive at an estimated cost of $175,000 to $225,000. The planning commission gave unanimous approval for the project at its Jan. 21 meeting.
During the joint regular/work session, the council will also discuss:
- Amending the ordinance on impact fees. No other details were provided in the agenda.
- A presentation on recycling in Baldwin County by Terri Graham.
- Authorizing the lease of city-owned property to NAPA for an auto parts store at 205 S. McKenzie Street.
- Accepting public rights-of-way and infrastructure improvements in subdivisions in the city, including Kensington Place, Primland, Rosewood, and Peachtree.
- Increasing the funding for the first responder safe room project by $78,938.
- Buying an SUV for the Sports Tourism Department for $48,000
- Applying for a BUILD, or Better Utilizing Investments to Leverage Development grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation. There were no further details in the agenda.
- Transferring $8,922 from the police salaries account to the dues and subscriptions account to help streamline background investigations for new hires.
- A resolution waiving fees for the use of the Foley Civic Center. The agenda didn’t state who was making the request.
- Approving going to bid for a new SUV for the Senior Center for $50,000 to replace a 2007 Ford F150 pickup.
- Approving going to bid for phase two of a downtown resurfacing project for $100,000.
- Paying GeoCon $18,000 for construction material testing for the first-responder safe room.
- Spending $45,000 to replace two air conditioning units. The agenda didn’t specify where the new units would be installed.
- Accepting an unbudgeted donation to the police department of $822 for recycling 411 pounds of brass shells collected at the firearms range. Officials plan to use the funds to purchase additional ammunition for firearms training.
- Approving a contract for $62,000 to help with athletic programs at Foley High School.
- Resolutions appointing Vera Quaites and reappointing Thomas Gebhart Jr. to the planning commission.
- Approving a parade by the South Baldwin Chamber Foundation for Walk this Way – An 80s Tribute Parade in Foley on April 24 from 5-10 p.m.
