One of the busiest roadways in the southeast section of town will soon get an upgrade. Turn lanes will improve traffic flow on South Juniper Street under plans moving forward by the city of Foley.
Foley is going out for bids to add turn lanes on the busy route near Iberville Square. The Foley City Council approved the project at its meeting on April 6.
Taylor Davis, city engineer, said the additions will improve traffic flow in the area.
“This is for a left-turn lane onto Beignet Drive on Juniper Street,” Davis said. “This has been in our capital plan for a couple years now. Obviously, with the amount of traffic on Juniper Street, this would be a project that would be warranted.”
The project will include a southbound left-turn lane onto Beignet Drive. The city also plans to add a median island with future landscaping to promote traffic calming along that section of Juniper.
The new lanes will be constructed between East Lawson Avenue and Beignet Drive. The design of the project is complete and the city will now go out for bids to build the lanes.
City revenue from impact fees will pay for the project. Impact fees are charges paid by developers building new homes in the area. Impact fees are used for park additions and expansions and for roadway intersection improvements needed due to the impacts created by new development.
