The South Baldwin County Toys for Tots Campaign received an early holiday boost after the Foley City Council agreed to donate space in the former public library building for its 2026 annual drive.
Under the agreement, which runs through Dec. 31, 2026, at no charge, the organization will utilize the first floor of the building on East Laurel Avenue, next to Foley City Hall, to organize and distribute gifts to local children in need.
The Foley City Council officially approved the venue request on Monday, Oct. 19, 2026. City Councilman Tim Lower was contacted by Toys for Tots representatives who were searching for an operational site for the 2026 campaign.
“Toys for Tots and the Marine Corps League volunteers make sure no child in South Baldwin goes without a Christmas,” Lower said. “When they needed space, Team Foley responded quickly, and I’m proud we could help. I encourage everyone to drop off a new, unwrapped toy this season.
Cian Harrison, Foley’s executive director for general government and administration, noted that municipal leaders were eager to assist the initiative. “The city is very happy to be able to support Toys for Tots,” Harrison said. “They needed a place to organize and distribute toys to local children, and the city was able to respond quickly and provide a space.
Sponsored by the Cpl. Joseph Whitehead Detachment of the Marine Corps League, the campaign collects new, unwrapped toys for families during the holiday season. During the 2025 holiday drive, the campaign distributed toys to approximately 5,000 children across Foley and surrounding areas.
The former library building housed the Foley Public Library from 1984 until July 2026. The Foley Community Library opened its current location on East Orange Avenue in August 2026. Following the holiday drive, the city of Foley plans to move forward with designs to renovate the East Laurel Avenue facility into municipal administrative offices.
